Four Pathways to Produce Melanin

Melanin is produced using different the breakdown products of various amino acids which include:

  1. Tyrosine
  2. Phenylalanine
  3. Cysteine
  4. Neuromelanins

Tyrosine and phenylalanine are contained in high concentrations of the following foods: dark green, leafy vegetables, bananas, grapes and mushrooms.
